Cobb 4 Transit: Fighting to improve local transit now and in the future.

Started in 2019, Cobb 4 Transit is a non-profit organization we created to bring better transit to Cobb County. We’re still in the beginning stages of this initiative, but so far we’ve accomplished a lot. We’ve got a lot of work to do, though.

3 Highlights

  • Keep locally focused
  • Customized messaging is key
  • It’s surprisingly easy to get involved with local politics and have an impact

Background

Cobb County has been known for generations as a conservative suburban community that has seen explosive growth. Conservative politicians have had control of the county for decades and have blocked transit expansion due to financial and racist reasons.

Cobb County politicians even created an unpopulated city called Chattahoochee Plantation on its southern border to block transit expansion and annexation.

The existing transit was created by the business and hospitality community and county leaders have championed statistics like “80% of transit riders are using it to commute to and from work”. That’s a problem. The current riders only take transit because they have to and they have no other option to pay rent and put food on the table.

We can do so much better. And that’s what we’re fighting for.

Better bus stops. More regional connections. Higher frequency. A better experience. Fair fares.

All of those are things we are fighting for to expand transit in a fair and equitable way.
