A new step in my life

0 Comments 16 September 2009

So I have decided to take the risks.  I have been talking the talk for years about doing something on my own, plotting my own path, charting my own maps, and taking the machete out into this wilderness of life and careers and creating my own trail.  I will now be starting my own independent company, which will act as an umbrella for multiple ventures.   I am now starting the process of establishing a legal company, and from there launching multiple startups.

Although I have been wanting to do this for years, the process to do this alone is overwhelming, time-consuming, and quite honestly, scary as hell.  So many decisions are to be made, both large and small, yet every decision seems to have a false sense of extreme importance, as if making a small mistake will be the difference between success and failure.  These decisions range from the administrative, such as legal and accounting, to the revenue generation, such as marketing, sales, pricing, or customer service.  Seriously, if I were to write out all of the decisions and questions that I have debated for countless hours on, it would fill out multiple notebooks.  I have tried to write down my thought processes and organize my research, yet everytime it becomes so vague and scatterbrained that it winds up being useless and unusable.  I have been trying to formulate a failsafe plan for my company to minimize the risks before I launch, but have realized that this will take me years to complete.

Truth is, I don’t need a concrete plan right now.  I just need to do it.  For every idea I come up with, everything I want to do, I just need to sit down, come up with a quick plan, and DO IT!  The great thing about the majority of my companies is that they are internet related, so the cost of getting them up and going is very cheap.   Once they are launched, I can then focus on letting them grow and getting more people on them.  Some of the companies are service companies (video production, web design, etc.), meanwhile others are in support of communities or will be resources for others.

I am doing this because I think I can be beneficial to other people and companies in a wide variety of ways.  Each of the companies I will launch will solve some specific problem that I have come across and have not been able to find a suitable solution.  On top of this, because I will be learning a lot about the entire process of starting a company, and will be making very beneficial and supportive relationships, I will try to help others with an idea or business that they would like to start.  These people may be overwhelmed with the responsibilities and decisions they have to make to start their company.  If I can lower this barrier and provide people with the ability to start their company without worrying about all the administrative and technical responsibilities, while guiding them to assist with their strategies, I believe I can be an extremely valuable resource.

My company will exist as a very flexible and dynamic entity which will create companies and brands in a very efficient and successful process.  I will focus on maximizing the success while minimizing the risks and investment so that each company is launched and given a chance to succeed.

As of right now I am getting all of my thoughts together and coming up with a prioritization of what I want to do now.  I will be launching a website that will be a resource to other entrepreneurs and companies in the Atlanta area that are looking to take the next step.  If you have any questions, suggestions, tips, or advice, please contact me.  Also, if you are an entrepreneur or if you have ever THOUGHT about being one, please let me know, as I would love to feature you on my website.

Appreciate any and all support you can give.
