Personal Account of Atlanta Flooding

0 Comments 22 September 2009

So, as I am sure you have heard in the news, Atlanta is experiencing record flooding. As meteorologists and emergency officials have constantly downplayed the extent of the storms the past few days, the emergency became full-scale earlier today as some areas have received up to 20 inches of rain in the last 4 days.  The area around my parents house, in Acworth, GA, has received over 18 inches.

Here are some links to some additional information about the flooding:

Minute by Minute updates in AJC

Traffic updates on Georgia Navigator (expect I-20 in Douglas County, I-285 near the crossing of the Chattahoochee, and I-575 near Alatoona to be closed)

Six confirmed deaths, possibly more

Pictures I took of the flooding:

Trying to leave the West Cobb area and go to Downtown Atlanta, I got stopped at an overflowing Alatoona Creek, which was about 25 feet higher than normal:

Here is another route I took, usually this bridge has no water under it:

Finally, I took some pictures of the flooded Chattahoochee, which is experiencing major flooding (crested at 28.1, about 5 feet higher than the level of these pictures)

Some Videos I took of the different scenes I witnessed:
